Sports Injury Recovery

From ACL tears and ankle sprains to basketball knocks and marathon niggles — structured, milestone-based rehab that gets you back on the court, road, or pitch stronger than before.

About Sports Injury Recovery

Sport is in the Filipino DNA. Sunday basketball at the barangay court, the Milo Marathon, Condura Skyway, 5 AM runs around BGC, Ultimate Frisbee at UP, padel, Muay Thai at Elorde — if you are moving, you are probably going to get hurt at some point. Our job is to make sure that when you do, the injury does not define the next season of your life.

We work with recreational athletes, competitive club players, and weekend warriors across Metro Manila. The most common cases in our clinic are ACL and meniscus injuries from basketball and football, lateral ankle sprains from almost every sport, runner's knee and IT band syndrome from road running, plantar fasciitis, hamstring strains, and tennis or padel elbow. Our sports lead Nico Ramos, DPT, is a certified sports physiotherapist who has worked with varsity and semi-pro teams in Manila.

What makes sports rehab different is the endpoint. It is not enough to be "pain-free in daily life" — you need to cut, sprint, jump, and twist without fear or compensation. That means our rehab is built around measurable, sport-specific milestones, not vague timelines.

What to expect on your first visit

  • An injury-specific clinical exam with the appropriate orthopaedic tests (Lachman, McMurray, ankle instability, Thompson, etc.).
  • Functional testing as soon as it is safe — single-leg hop, Y-balance, strength asymmetries, and range checks.
  • Gait or running analysis where relevant, including video review.
  • A written rehab roadmap with phases and clear return-to-play criteria — not just dates.
  • Coordination with your orthopaedic surgeon, strength coach, or team if needed.

Treatments we may use

  • Functional testingObjective strength, hop, balance, and symmetry tests so we progress based on data, not guesses.
  • Gait & running analysisSlow-motion video review to catch overstriding, knee valgus, or hip drop that drove the injury.
  • Sport-specific rehabCutting, change-of-direction, plyometric and reactive drills matched to your sport's real demands.
  • Manual therapy & soft tissueJoint mobilisation, instrument-assisted release, and sports massage to accelerate recovery between sessions.
  • Shockwave therapyExcellent for chronic Achilles, patellar, and gluteal tendinopathies that limit training load.
  • Taping & bracingKinesio and rigid taping for short-term confidence and load-management on return to sport.

Pro tip: Most basketball ACL injuries happen on the landing, not the cut — which means landing mechanics are coachable and re-injury is largely preventable. We include jump-landing retraining in every return-to-court program, whether you tore your ACL or not.

Runners training for Milo Marathon or the QCIM often come in with knee pain, shin splints, or stubborn heel pain. In almost every case, the fix is not more stretching — it is fixing the loading pattern and addressing the weak link up the chain (usually the hip). Related reading: our article on runner's knee and IT band syndrome explains the mechanics in plain language, and our knee and arthritis care page covers what to do when the joint itself is already irritated.

For post-operative cases — ACL reconstruction, meniscus repair, rotator cuff surgery, ankle ligament reconstruction — rehab is not optional, it is the difference between a good outcome and a lifetime of compensation. Our post-surgery rehabilitation service is designed hand-in-hand with the sports program for athletes returning from the OR.
